Application Delivery for the modern workspace

Multi-Platform application management

The challenge: one size doesn't fit all

Workspace are continuously subject to change and innovation. Hybrid scenarios, the many migrations, and even day-to-day management (packaging, updating, life cycle management) require multiple solutions and cost too much time and money. Moreover, organizations using Microsoft’s App-V have to look for alternative ways of application delivery anyway. IT-admins are in need of flexible, sustainable solutions that do fit all.

Portability = flexibility

Application portability is a technique that can help address the challenges mentioned above. It provides a solution to efficiently manage and deploy applications to diverse endpoints while maintaining control, flexibility, and scalability. Application portability decouples applications from the underlying OS and platform and places them in their own "layer". Now, these applications can be managed independently. For example: admins can easily update the applications and assign them to users without having to change base images.

FlexApp

With a platform-agnostic approach in mind, Liquidware developed its own application management solution FlexApp. Packaged in FlexApp, applications can be easily and flexibly deployed to any platform (physical, virtual, cloud). Multiple Windows versions, hybrid environments or multiple application versions that need to run side by side, are not a problem. The respective applications then display and behave as if they were traditionally installed, without contaminating the operating system.

An alternative to App-V

App-V has been a trusted solution for application virtualization since 2012. Many organisations still use it, but Microsoft stopped active development in 2015 already. While client components of App-V remain supported for now (Microsoft recently revisited the end-of-support deadline of April 2026), its server components will be out of support halfway 2026. Meanwhile, Microsoft’s successor, MSIX, still faces challenges such as lower packaging success rates and limited compatibility with Windows 11. As a result, organisations seek reliable alternatives.

To make the transition as smooth as possible, preserve previous investments, as well as taking future developments into account, Liquidware offers the possibility to convert App-V packages directly to FlexApp. Even if an organization wants to migrate its workstation in the future, FlexApp and associated packages remain usable. FlexApp integrates seamlessly with all leading (physical/virtual/cloud) workstations and solutions such as Intune.
