ProfileUnity as an alternative to Ivanti Workspace Control

Enhanced User Environment Management

Ivanti Workspace Control end-of-life

In January 2024, Ivanti announced that it will be sunsetting its Workspace Control solution (IWC, formerly RES Workspace Manager). This means current customers have to make choices about how they want to manage their user environment. ProfileUnity offers a future-proof alternative and is ideally suited for modern/hybrid workplace environments.

A future-proof solution

The modern workplace is supported by a modern architecture to facilitate “working anytime, from anywhere”. In practice, this often means a hybrid and cloud-based environment with different types of devices. To ensure security, uniformity and a good user experience, a User Environment Management solution is needed that can flexibly deal with these components (especially the cloud component). Aspects like context-awareness, profile and policy management and extensive configuration options are important here. Commonly used endpoint management solutions such as Intune do not cover all of these.

The alternative: ProfileUnity

Having a platform-agnostic approach in mind, Liquidware has developed its User Environment Management solution ProfileUnity. ProfileUnity provides a fast, simple, scalable (and multi-tenant) solution for contextually managing the user environment. With ProfileUnity, user profiles are decoupled from the OS , making them universally portable across all platforms and OS versions. This has multiple benefits. For example, with shared devices, during migrations or disaster recovery.

Migration tool

Migrating to a new solution always takes time and resources. To preserve previous investments and make the migration process as efficient as possible, we have developed a special migration tool that allows current Ivanti Building Blocks to be easily migrated to ProfileUnity.

The benefits

 Profile decoupling
By decoupling user profiles from Windows, the profile becomes universally portable and compatible with any supported Windows operating system. This has several advantages. For example: when devices are shared (common practice in healthcare), during migrations or disaster recovery.

  Better user experience
A user's settings are no longer linked to a device, but to a user profile. This significantly improves user experience and efficiency, without compromising the digital workplace.

  Advanced and efficient management
A lot of specialized in-depth (scripting) knowledge is needed to create contextual settings for users. With User Environment Management complementing standard EUM tooling (such as WEM/Intune or VMware workspace one), contextual workplace management becomes much simpler and advanced.

  (Cost) Efficiency
Because no scripting is required, IT administrators can save a lot of time (and thus money), as adding contextual user information no longer takes three hours, but only three minutes. This in turn has a positive effect on the user experience because changes can be processed almost in real time, instead of depending on synchronization policies.

  Security
With the ability to intervene in users' workstations, security risks can be quickly mitigated by removing access to unwanted programs or enforcing new security policies.
